Why does Dr. Lewis not contract with insurance companies or Medicare?
Dr. Lewis went to medical school and specialized in Family Medicine so she could help individuals and families, in all stages of life, face health challenges with confidence and to help prevent illness when possible. Her patients’ success in health translates into her success as a physician. This is how she earns her living.
Insurance companies are in the business of making money. Medicare is now being used for political gain, not for providing sustainable health care benefits for seniors and people with disabilities. Both of these health care financing systems are costly and currently do not have mechanisms that support the pursuit of exceptional primary care and prevention of illness.
There is a story about a fox who agrees to carry a scorpion on its back across a river, upon the
condition that the scorpion does not sting her. The fox agrees to provide safe passage, but the
scorpion does indeed sting the fox when they are in the middle of the large river. As the fox and
the scorpion begin to drown, the fox pleadingly asks why the scorpion has killed both of them by
stinging, and the scorpion answers, "Because it is my nature."
Dr. Lewis has come to understand the nature of the scorpion and has chosen to no longer carry it on her back.
